Residential Drain Cleaning & Sewer Repair in Houston, TX

Same-Day Service Available | Serving Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita, Spring, Conroe & Surrounding Areas

Slow drains. Water is backing up in the shower when you flush. A gurgling toilet. A smell in the bathroom that shouldn't be there. These are signs your home's drain or sewer system needs attention and in Houston, ignoring them tends to make things worse, not better.

Spencer's Plumbing Services provides residential drain cleaning, hydro jetting, sewer line repair, and sewer camera inspection for homeowners across Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita, Spring, Porter, New Caney, Conroe, Splendora, Huffman, Cleveland, Crosby, and all of Greater Houston. Led by Responsible Master Plumber Christopher Spencer (RMP #45302), we find the actual cause of your drain problem and fix it right, not just clear it temporarily and leave you calling again in three weeks.

Signs Your Home Needs Drain or Sewer Service

Houston's hard water, high humidity, and clay-heavy soil create conditions that accelerate water heater wear. If you're noticing any of the following, it's time to call a licensed plumber:

Call Spencer's Plumbing if you notice:

One or more drains running slowly bathroom, kitchen, or utility room

Water backing up in the tub or shower when you flush the toilet

Gurgling or bubbling sounds from drains, especially after flushing

Sewage odors inside the home or near outdoor cleanouts

Multiple drains slow at the same time  often a main line problem

Water pooling in the yard over your sewer line without recent rain

Frequent recurring clogs in the same drain that keep coming back

A toilet that doesn't flush completely or fills unusually slowly

A single slow drain is often a localized clog. Multiple slow drains at the same time usually indicate a main sewer line problem, which needs a different approach and a licensed plumber, not a store-bought drain cleaner.

Why Houston Drains Need Extra Attention

Drain Snaking & Augering

For most localized household drain clogs bathroom sinks, shower drains, bathtub drains, kitchen sinks, and floor drains professional drain snaking is the fastest and most appropriate first response. Spencer's Plumbing uses electric cable machines to break up and remove blockages quickly, restoring flow without damaging your pipes.

Drain snaking works best for:

  • Hair and soap buildup in bathroom drains
  • Grease accumulation in the kitchen sink drains
  • Isolated fixture clogs with no signs of main line involvement
  • First-response clearing when multiple options are under evaluation

If snaking produces only temporary relief the drain slows again within a week or two; that's a signal that the underlying problem is further down the line, requires hydro jetting, or indicates structural pipe damage that needs camera inspection.

Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the interior walls of your drain and sewer lines not just puncturing through a clog, but cleaning the full pipe diameter of grease accumulation, mineral scale, and biofilm that regular snaking leaves behind. For kitchen drain lines with years of grease buildup, or main sewer lines with recurring blockages, hydro jetting provides a more thorough and longer-lasting result.

Spencer's Plumbing performs a camera inspection before any hydro jetting service to confirm that your pipes can handle the pressure. This step protects your plumbing and ensures we're applying the right solution for your system's actual condition.

Hydro jetting is recommended for:

  • Kitchen drain lines with years of grease and soap accumulation
  • Main sewer lines with recurring slow-drain issues that snaking hasn't resolved
  • Older homes where decades of buildup have significantly reduced pipe capacity
  • Post-root-removal clearing to fully restore sewer line flow

Sewer Camera Inspection

Before recommending any major drain or sewer repair, Spencer's Plumbing inspects your line with a sewer camera. Video diagnostics show exactly what's happening inside your pipe, the precise location of a blockage, the extent of root intrusion, whether a joint has separated, or whether the pipe has collapsed so we can recommend the right repair without guesswork or unnecessary work.

Sewer camera inspection is included as a diagnostic step before significant repairs and is also available as a standalone service for:

  • Home buyers want to know the condition of the sewer system before closing
  • Homeowners in older neighborhoods who want a baseline condition assessment
  • Recurring drain problems where the cause hasn't been identified
  • Post-repair verification that a clearing or repair was fully effective

Sewer Line Repair & Replacement

When camera inspection reveals structural pipe damage, root intrusion that has split the pipe, a joint separation, a collapsed section, or significant corrosion clearing alone won't solve the problem. Spencer's Plumbing provides residential sewer line repair and replacement across Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita, Spring, Conroe, New Caney, Splendora, and Greater Houston.

Sewer line repair services include:

  • Spot repair of isolated pipe damage or joint separations
  • Full sewer line replacement for severely damaged or deteriorated lines
  • Trenchless repair options where site conditions allow minimal excavation
  • Under-slab drain repair for Houston homes on slab foundations
  • Root removal and joint treatment to prevent re-intrusion
  • Permit coordination where required by the Houston Permitting Center

We use sewer camera inspection before and after every structural repair to precisely locate the problem, after to confirm the repair was fully effective.

Drain Cleaning for Specific Fixtures

Not every drain problem is a main line issue. Spencer's Plumbing handles individual fixture drain cleaning across Greater Houston homes:

Fixture / Drain
Common Cause in Houston Homes
Kitchen sink drain

Grease, food particles, and soap accumulation, especially in homes without garbage disposals

Bathroom sink drain

Hair, soap scum, and toothpaste buildup at the P-trap and beyond

Shower drain

Hair and soap buildup can also indicate partial mainline restriction

Bathtub drain

Hair accumulation; older tubs may have corroded trip levers that restrict flow

Floor drain (utility room, garage)

Debris, sediment, and occasional root intrusion are often neglected until a backup occurs

Toilet slow flush

Partial blockage in the toilet trap or the drain line; also check for flapper and fill valve issues

Main sewer line/cleanout

Root intrusion, grease accumulation, and joint separation require camera inspection to diagnose accurately.

Emergency Drain & Sewer Service

A sewer backup into your home isn't something you schedule around; it needs a same-day response. Spencer's Plumbing provides emergency drain and sewer service across Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita, Spring, Conroe, New Caney, Splendora, and Greater Houston. Call 832-658-2569 any time. We dispatch quickly, arrive with the equipment to diagnose and clear your system, and won't leave you with a temporary fix that fails again in 48 hours.

How Spencer's Plumbing Approaches Drain & Sewer Problems

Listen to your description; identify which drains are affected and whether the issue is localized or system-wide

Diagnose

For anything beyond a simple fixture clog, we use camera inspection to see exactly what's happening in the pipe

We recommend what your system actually needs. If drain snaking resolves the problem, we'll tell you. If camera inspection shows structural damage that requires repair, we'll show you the footage so you understand exactly what you're dealing with.

Annual Drain Maintenance for Houston Homeowners

The most cost-effective drain service is the one you schedule before you have a problem. Annual drain maintenance is especially valuable for Houston homeowners because of the tree root intrusion risk in wooded neighborhoods, aging infrastructure in homes from the 1970s to 1990s, and the way Houston's climate accelerates buildup in kitchen drain lines.

Spencer's Plumbing annual drain maintenance visits for Greater Houston homes include:

  • Inspection of all accessible drain lines for flow performance
  • Kitchen drain flushing and clearing
  • Sewer camera inspection of the main line (recommended every 2–3 years, or annually for homes with mature trees)
  • Written report with condition notes and any recommendations

Recommended maintenance frequency by home type:

Home Situation
Recommended Drain Maintenance
Standard home, no known issues

Annual drain maintenance; camera inspection every 2–3 years

Older home (1970s–1990s) with original sewer line

Annual maintenance with camera inspection

Home surrounded by mature trees (Kingwood, Atascocita)

Annual camera inspection given root intrusion risk

Home with recurring slow drains or past backups

Semi-annual maintenance; identify and address root cause

Recently purchased a home with no inspection history

Baseline camera inspection to assess system condition

Frequently Asked Questions Residential Drain & Sewer Service

Why do I have multiple slow drains at the same time?

Multiple slow drains happening simultaneously  especially if they're in different parts of the house  almost always indicate a main sewer line problem rather than individual fixture clogs. The main sewer line carries waste from every drain in the home to the municipal sewer system. When it's partially blocked, every drain in the house is affected. This needs a professional with a camera, not a plunger or store-bought drain cleaner.

How often should I get my drains cleaned?

For most Greater Houston homes, annual drain maintenance is a good baseline. Homes surrounded by mature trees  common in Kingwood and Atascocita  benefit from annual sewer camera inspection given the root intrusion risk. Older homes from the 1970s–1990s with original sewer lines should have a camera inspection annually. If you've had recurring slow drains or a backup in the past, semi-annual maintenance is worth considering.

Is hydro jetting safe for residential pipes?

Yes, when preceded by camera inspection. Spencer's Plumbing always inspects a line before hydro jetting to confirm that the pipe's structural integrity can handle the pressure. For pipes that are cracked, severely corroded, or offset, we address the structural issue before applying high-pressure clearing. For sound PVC, cast iron, and ABS residential pipes, hydro jetting is safe and highly effective.

Can tree roots really damage my sewer line?

Yes and it's one of the most common sewer line problems in neighborhoods with mature trees across Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita, and parts of Spring and Conroe. Tree roots grow toward the moisture and nutrients in sewer lines, entering through hairline cracks and slightly separated joints. Once inside, they grow until they cause a full blockage or split the pipe. Root intrusion doesn't resolve on its own; it requires clearing and usually pipe repair at the entry point.

What's the difference between snaking and hydro jetting?

Drain snaking uses a rotating cable to break up or pull out a blockage. It's fast and effective for isolated clogs and works well for most bathroom and kitchen drain problems. Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the full interior of the pipe  removing grease accumulation, mineral scale, and biofilm across the entire pipe diameter, not just cutting through a blockage. For recurring problems and kitchen drain lines with years of buildup, hydro jetting provides a more thorough and longer-lasting result.

Do I need a sewer camera inspection?

Not for every drain call  a straightforward bathroom sink clog usually doesn't need camera inspection. But for recurring slow drains, main line backups, suspected root intrusion, or any situation where we'd be recommending a significant repair, camera inspection is the right first step. It shows us exactly what's happening inside your pipe, eliminates guesswork, and protects you from paying for the wrong repair. We always recommend it before hydro jetting and before any structural sewer repair.

What should I do if sewage is backing up into my home?

Call 832-658-2569 immediately and stop using water in the house  every flush and drain adds to the backup. Turn off the water supply if the backup is severe. Do not use chemical drain cleaners. Spencer's Plumbing provides same-day emergency drain response across Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita, Spring, Conroe, and Greater Houston. A sewer backup into the home can cause significant water damage and a quick prompt response matters.

Can I use chemical drain cleaners for slow drains?

We don't recommend it for anything beyond a very minor, temporary fixture clog. Chemical drain cleaners are corrosive; they can damage older pipes, harm the rubber seals in P-traps and valves, and are ineffective against the root intrusion, joint separations, and significant grease buildup that cause the most serious drain problems in Houston homes. They also create a hazardous environment for a plumber who opens the line after the chemicals have been used. A $10 drain cleaner that produces temporary relief can delay proper diagnosis of a problem that's getting worse.
